When the Audubon’s Center for Birds of Prey announced a vulture-themed haiku contest for 2026, I knew I had to enter a contribution. According to their website, there were 2700 submissions! Mine was one of fifteen selected.
If you know me, you know my love of vultures runs deep. I love it when my local vultures pop down to my front porch to look for snacks and cause destruction. The birds are curious critters and mischievous, flinging my yard work sneakers around by their laces.
I’m happy my work was one of the selected pieces, but I’m also over the moon to know 2700 people loved vultures enough to submit their own entries.
